FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Chris Gross lemmythesassybasset@gmail.com 812-620-7645 Canine celebrity seeks to spread some love with line of coffee WASHINGTON COUNTY — The combination of dogs and coffee — caffeine in general — has never been a good one, but that’s not stopping one intrepid Southern Indiana hound from breaking into the java business, even if she can’t enjoy a good brew. Lemmy the Sassy Basset spends much of her time as a typical basset hound — playing outside, snoozing on the couch and plying her adoring internet fans with words of positivity via Facebook and Instagram. She’s starred in multiple ad campaigns and is using her celebrity to dabble in a number of worthy causes, including raising funds for the Washington County Humane Society in Salem, Indiana, and Basset Rescue of Kentuckiana. Lemmy and her humans, Chris and Paula Gross, gathered more than 470 bags of pet food (including two bags of guinea pig food) during the fall and winter of 2020 to help pets in need throughout Scott and Washington Counties, and they continue to respond to calls for help throughout the year. The Grosses also hope to include their their four-legged friend in a series of children’s books in the future. With Lemmy’s popularity growing, she and her humans are eager to do more to help others. They have teamed up with Moon Doggie Coffee Roasters in Westwood, New Jersey, to offer three coffee blends for Lemmy’s fans. Moon Doggie offers a wide array of flavors and options for their premium artisan coffee, so Chris asked Lemmy’s Facebook fans to help select three flavors they would like to see made available. They’ve selected French Vanilla, Lemmy’s Sassy Pumpkin Spice, and Lemmy’s Morning Cup of Inspiration. All three are Arabica blends featuring all-natural flavors. Chris said more flavor options may be available in the future, with fans selecting flavors and blend names. “We’re coffee drinkers,” said Chris. “Just look as you go into gas stations or places like that — everyone has a cup of coffee. Gourmet coffee is getting big, and we wanted to offer something people would use. These coffees will give people something to drink while looking through Lemmy’s page. A lot of people drink coffee and socialize together and this is one more way we can spread some positivity.” But the proceeds of these coffee sales won’t just add more glitz to Lemmy’s closet; the funds will continue the mission Lemmy and the Grosses began — making the world a better place. The coffee, which will sell for $10 a bag, will raise funds for the Washington County Humane Society to help complete a new animal shelter for needy pets while they wait for their new families. Once the building is finished, Chris said, they will switch charities to spread the Lemmy love. Furthermore, Moon Doggie Coffee Roasters donate to animal-focused causes with every bulk batch of coffee they sell, so each bag of coffee represents two gifts to worthy causes. Chris said he plans to sell the coffee at local stores in the South-Central Indiana area, along with offering the coffee blends online through the store on Lemmy’s website, LemmytheSassyBasset.com. He will also arrange for personal delivery and pick-up locations for Washington County locals wanting to save on shipping. Online shoppers can also pick up more Lemmy memorabilia — yes, including coffee mugs — at the online store. To celebrate the launch of Lemmy’s coffees, the “Lemmy the Sassy Basset” Facebook page is holding a drawing for the next three weeks, with Pioneer Woman products, Lemmy merchandise and other items up for grabs with each coffee purchase. Chris said he will pull from online invoices, and ensure invoices are given to in-person buyers, to enter them in the drawing. Lemmy and the Grosses understand that coffee isn’t the drink of choice for everyone, so they plan to release a set of tea blends as well as the coffee begins to take off. They are also working with a candy company, Winthrop’s Whimsies in Lexington, Kentucky, to produce hard candies featuring positive messages from Lemmy on the packaging. Fans can meet the Sassy Basset herself when she hosts the second annual pet costume contest at the Campbellsburg Hoedown at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2021, in Campbellsburg, Indiana. Trophies will be presented for different categories, from At-Least-You-Tried to Best in Show. More information about Lemmy, her causes, the coffee, and the future teas and candy can be found at the “Lemmy the Sassy Basset” Facebook page, where fans can find links to buy all their Lemmy goody needs.
